They go by the name of New Kingdom and they just released a free EP titled “Naked Time.” The EP is free as long as you join their mailing list. He has a wide range of knowledge of the art-form and his opinions are well respected here at GRM. This tape is a tribute to one of the greatest groups in hip hop, Cypress Hill. The tape features Roth rhyming over some of his favorite (classic) instrumentals from producers like J.Dilla, Kanye West, 9th Wonder, Jake One, RZA, Just Blaze and more. No original new music from Asher on here, but for a follow up mixtape, it’s works well in maintaining his status on the rap scene. Asher Roth is in the process of working on his follow up studio album now. Is there room in hip hop for anther white rapper? Tom Hardy thinks so, so does Don Cannon and producer 9th Wonder. Cannon broke Asher Roth with his first mixtape and it looks like he’s doing the same with Hardy. I’m still up in the air about Hardy, but the tape is entirely produced by 9th Wonder, which is dope. Hardy sort of reminds me of a Bubba Sparxxx type with the southern flow. Check him out and let me know what you all think. For those who frequent the site, you may remember we used to put out a monthly “summary” mixtape featuring some of the latest songs out. Those mixtapes sort of came to a halt just from being too busy to get them together. A lot of people since the stop have been asking for them again. So, here we go. I’m not sure if we will do them every month, but we will try to get them out more frequently. The first one up is “Swine Flu” (just having some fun with it).
