I’ve always been more of a fan of concept mixtapes and projects that push creative limits, rather than just some Dj whatever his name is putting together a compilation of songs. 100 Akres shot this tape over to us today and thankfully they have the project on BandCamp, so we were able to listen to it quickly and get a nice feel for it. I’m guessing the idea was sparked by the new “Distant Relatives” album coming from Nas and Damian Marley. This one features 6 solid mash-ups with an intro and an outro. Featuring Nas acapellas over some Bob Marley loops and instrumentals. A dope concept and not a bad little mix to throw on if you’re in that island cheeba cheeba mood and the weathers nice. A lot of users on GetRightMusic.com have been requesting more reggae mixtapes. Reggae isn’t really my specialty, although I am a fan. I will try and get some more reggae up here for everyone. But, more so, I’m a fan of the older reggae of which I grew up on. Like Capelton, TOK, Mr. Vegas, Buju Banton, Vybez Kartel, Elephant Man and more. Also, there hasn’t been any really new/quality mixtapes released in a few days, so I decided to go ahead and post up this Dj Gera tape. Featuring over 70 tracks of classic “older” school reggae. Mishka & Major Lazer – Keep Watch Vol.X

I just recently got put on to Major Lazer and was a fan right away. Major Lazer is a fictional character created by producers Diplo and Switch. I’ll post the official description of Lazer below. It’s too much to describe. Anyway, clothing company Mishka just put out a Major Lazer shirt and in promotion for it also dropped this tape featuring one long MP3 of electro-reggae-dancehall, if that makes sense. The mix is dope. Nice to throw on at a summer BBQ or pool party. At least that’s where I would rock it. Check it out. Rock City – Put The F’n Album Out…Sneak Peek

Rock City, by way of the US Virgin Islands: St. Thomas, release their mixtape in promotion for their upcoming album. Apparently St. Thomas is known as Rock City and that is where these 2 brothers got their name from. After building up a name for themselves they began to start writing for major artists like Busta Rhymes, Nicole Scherzinger, Eve, Usher and Akon. The new mixtape highlights their talent with them rhyming over various instrumentals. I have never really heard too much from them, but the mixtape is pretty good and a great showcase of their talent.
