November 19, 2009

In promotion for Rakim’s new studio album “The Seventh Seal,” Dj Parler puts out a 1 track 40 minute mix featuring classic Rakim as well as some of his new cuts. Rakim was a true pioneer and it is very commendable that he is still in the studio and putting out dope records at that. Parler put together a great mix here that you just have to push play on and enjoy. Not much more to say. Always a free mixtape download over here. Home of the free hip hop mixtape downloads. Emilio Rojas – The Natural

November 18, 2009

Dj Green Lantern presents Emilio Rojas with his latest mixtape titled “The Natural.” Emilio has shown tremendous growth since his last mixtape with Dj Noodles. I think he may even be one of the most improved artists in my opinion for 2009. “The Natural” mixtape comes off like a street album and features some heavyweight production from beat makers like 6th Sense, M-Phazes, Green Lantern, Boi-1da, Nottz, Sean C & LV and more. When I first heard Emilio’s music last year I didn’t think that he would be an artist capable of holding down a full album, but after hearing this tape my opinions definitely changed. Take a listen to Rojas. Always a free mixtape download here. Home of the free hip hop mixtape downloads. Tracklist and downloads after the jump. Get Right…

Jack Splash – Heir To The Throne Vol.1

November 13, 2009

Currently as I am writing this post I’m listening to Jack Splash for the first time. I have never heard of him, so props to TSS and DJ Skee for presenting the tape. Jack Splash has true talent and currently is signed to J Records and working on his studio album slated for a 2010 release. Getting his start as a producer who has had a hand in many hits, now Splash is getting into the spotlight, and deservedly should. The production alone is dope. This is a must download in my opinion and may even make our top ten list for 2009… Here’s what TSS said about the project.

Along with DJ Skee, we’re proud to bring to you Jack Splash’s Heir To The Throne Vol. 1. On the surface, the mixtape is a motion picture in audio form, inspired by scenes seen after living in both L.A and Miami. It’s energetic, eclectic rhymes spiced with doses of rap, funk and traces of techno.

At first listen, Jack Splash’s lyrics are glitzy & inspired by living the life. But with an open ear, the differences between the mixtape and Jack’s previous work with Plantlife are apparent. Before the glamor there was the grind, evidenced on “Baatin.” There was the study of musical styles that you hear in the words & sounds used for “Charlie Wilson” & “Rick James.” If you listen closely, you’ll hear the words and sounds from the guy who had a hand in finding Keys and crafting a Legend. The guy who shaped the sounds of Missy and Jamie. The guy who influenced anybody famous enough to go by one name.

Now, after manning the boards and creating for so many others, it’s time to meet Jack. Watch for the forthcoming album Technology and Love Might Save Us All… coming spring 2010 on J Records. For now, enjoy Heir To The Throne Vol. 1.

Trackstar The Dj: Best Rapper Alive? Royce Da 5′9″ vs. Lil Wayne

November 12, 2009

Trackstar The Dj is back with a brand new mixtape for everyone. If you don’t recall, Trackstar put out a dope “Best Of” mixtape of Royce a little bit ago. This one however is a faceoff between Wayne and Royce. I’ll let Track explain his logic behind the production of this one.

Since Jay-Z stopped worrying about being the best and declared himself the greatest, many people have claimed the title of Best Rapper Alive, but few as often as Lil Wayne and Royce Da 5′9″.

While Wayne is a global superstar and Royce owns the underground, they seem to share similar taste in beats — “D.O.A.,” “I’m Me” and “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” as notable examples. I went ahead and put together twelve rounds of Nickel and Weezy facing off over the same beat, threw in a boxing motif, and now I’ll let the people decide.

The artwork on the back with the scorecard is excellent. The logic behind the mixtape is equally excellent. Trackstar always comes through with the dope mixtapes, so everyone should probably download this one here. Always a free mixtape download over here. Home of the free hip hop mixtape downloads. S-Preme – The Sicktape: Vol.2

November 10, 2009

Terry Urban presents S-Preme’s Sicktape Vol.2. I didn’t get a chance to hear his first “Sicktape” yet, but this tape is pretty tight. S-Preme has talent and I enjoyed listening to this one. Take a listen for yourself.

The Sicktape sees S-Preme narrating the spikes and spirals of being an aspiring MC. Each track unveils another chapter in the protagonist’s journey thru the limelight, including some unexpected hurdles that many in the industry are all too familiar with. By the end, The Sicktape will have rising stars and star-gazers wondering whether the “big time” truly is worth the sacrifice of mind, body, and — in most cases — the soul.

Guest spots from Amanda Diva and ESSO along with production from Soundtrakk (Lupe Fiasco’s in-house beatsmith) and Charles Hamilton set the scenes for this audio odyssey.

Props/shit-talk to @spreme is highly encouraged! #sicktape2
