Mixtape: CurT@!n$ – The Dissertation (The Wu Thesis)
July 31, 2010
I’m really getting tired of writing Curtains’ name how it’s supposed to be, like this: CurT@!n$. Looks nice, but it’s a pain to type. Alright, anyway, CurT@!n$ just released this brand new mixtape along with BLVCK SCVLE clothing. An ode to Wu-Tang is the theme here. CurT@!n$ takes some classic Wu beats and creates new updated material over them. The project features 2 of our favorite West Coast artists right now, Diz Gibran and Dom Kennedy. The mixtape is dope. Respect CurT@!n$ and his creativity. Check it out below. Tracklist, stream and downloads below. Get Right…

RePost: Kanye West Stays Positive on New Album
July 31, 2010
Personally, I’m excited to hear what the RZA and Kanye created while recording for the new album. Read about it below. Get Right…
(Article via Hip-Hop and R&B Music, News, Photos, Interviews, & Videos)

It was just a regular day at the offices of Rolling Stone until Kanye West stopped by for an impromptu performance and album listening.
After his trips to Facebook and Twitter earlier in the week, Kanye treated the magazine’s staffers to nearly a dozen new tracks plus snippets of unfinished material from his fifth album. Mr. West, clad in a charcoal gray suit, rapped on top of a boardroom table and fielded questions from the audience (he’d like to work with Lauryn Hill and Thom Yorke).
The new Twitter addict described the tone of his as-yet-untitled record as positive. “I feel like [now] I can be a vessel for good will and energy,” he said, while admitting that he’s made mistakes in the past. RS called the material “some of Kanye’s most adventurous and experimental music yet” featuring heavy beats, sparse piano lines, electric guitar solos, and sci-fi melodies.
“People fall short of the greatness of rock ‘n’ roll,” Yeezy told the crowd. “They’re all scared. Everybody’s fu**ing pu**y. And all the people that could be real rock stars get scared and just run away from popular culture. It takes so much for me and Eminem to come back and embrace [it] and say, ‘You know what? We have to deliver this on a major level to make a difference.’”
During a series of drunken tweets, Kanye revealed that the album will feature production from Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA. Nicki Minaj is also set to make an appearance on the September 14 release, as Rap-Up.com previously reported.

Rick Ross appeared on the debut session of MTV News’ “RapFix Live” and during his interview with Sway, the Miami MC revealed some exclusive negotiations he hopes to begin soon.
Ross looked into the camera and sent a message to this week’s guest, the 2010 Hottest Breakthrough MC, Wiz Khalifa. The Teflon Don superstar wants Wiz to join him on his roster.
“You know, Wiz, what’s happening, this is the Boss, Ricky Ross, Teflon Don,” the rapper said last Friday. “You know we spoke of this in the last week or two, but my question is even more personal that I’d love to ask you right now. What would it take for us to close the deal, Wiz Khalifa and Maybach Music?
“I feel like the homie is a superstar,” Ross continued. “We discussed this last week. He’s most definitely loyal to his team. But like I told him, there’s always more to get.”
Wiz hadn’t responded as of press time, but he’s expected to deliver a comment when he appears on “RapFix Live” on Friday (August 30). The two rappers met recently and collaborated on the remix of Ross’ hit “Super High” along with Curren$y. The trio’s chemistry was evident on the track and the Pittsburgh rapper commended the Miami star for reaching out to upstarts like himself and Curren$y.
“That was a blessing, dude,” Wiz told Mixtape Daily about the collaboration.
“Ross just kept it G, dawg. He seen my movement, he seen Curren$y’s movement. He recognized what we do together, but he recognized us as individuals as well as a team. He reached out in a real way. Spiff [TV] called us. I think he reached out to Spitta first. Then Spiff, he reached out to me. I was still on another leg of my tour. So as soon as I got done with the last leg of my tour, soon as I got home, I went straight to the studio and knocked out the verse, sent it to Ross. He was like, ‘I love it. I’m flying you out next week. We doing the video.’ ”
Don’t miss Wiz Khalifa on “RapFix Live” on MTV.com, Friday at 1 p.m. ET!

RePost: 10 Rappers Who Got Screwed By Their Record Labels
July 29, 2010
(Article via The Urban Daily)
Surprise, surprise: Another rapper is pissed off at his record label! This time, it’s Lupe Fiasco. Though commentary from his former friend/producer Prolyfic and his Twitter beef with Eskay of Nahright are making Lupe look like more of a crybaby than rebel, we’re giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Lupe took to Twitter a couple weeks ago to announce that he’s handed his latest album, Lasers, over to Atlantic Records:
“Lasers is out of my hands guys and gals…it’s done and that’s all I can tell you…when they drop it…they drop it…so drop it…”
The announcement was enough to get a group of Lupe’s fans to start a petition last week asking for Atlantic to release the record. But haven’t we seen this dog and pony act before? Rappers have been battling their record labels for years now. To show you what we mean, we sat down and came up with a list of 10 rappers not named Lupe Fiasco who have gone through similar struggles. Feel their pain.
The Rapper: Clipse
The Label: Jive Records
The Politics: Pusha T and Malice of the Clipse actually started recording their sophomore album, Hell Hath No Fury, in late 2003. But thanks to a merger between their original label Arista Records and Jive Records, a slew of album delays, and a lawsuit which included the duo suing Jive for the right to leave the label, the album didn’t come out until November 2006. Like a fine wine, the project only got better with age (it eventually earned a “XXL” rating from XXL) but the long delay resulted in subpar album sales and Clipse left the label in early 2007.
