Dj Noodles & Kay Slay: Jay Rock – Gudda Muzik

May 29, 2009

I’m a few days late on this one here. Dj Noodles sent me this tape over the other day, but I’ve just been kinda too busy to give it a listen. Remember, we don’t post anything on Get Right Music without listening to it first and then deciding whether or not it’s worth a post and worth you time and hard drive space. Unlike, most other sites that just serve as PR and marketing homes for labels. Yeah, they just get emails from the PR team and post it right up without review. True story. Alright, enough of that. Jay Rock is climbing fast on the scene, coming out of California. The new mixtape is hosted by Noodles and Kay Slay. Featuring new music from the west coast native, like standout tracks featuring The Game, Lloyd Banks, Red Cafe, Busta Rhymes and more. Jay Rock is a dope new artist out of the west, reminiscent of The Game to me, but not really. Check him out. Always a free mixtape download over here. Home of the free hip hop mixtape downloads. Masspike Miles – The Pursuit of Happiness

May 29, 2009

We usually don’t post too many R&B mixtapes up here on Get Right Music, but a lot of people have been talking about this guy here. Masspike Miles has been featured on a bunch of hooks so far that have been doing well, particularly “Cigar Music.” On this mixtape here, hosted by Rick Ross and Dj Khaled and put together by Bigga Rankin, Masspike Miles showcases his talent over various tracks. He is pretty talented as a singer and will probably be featured on more and more hooks in the upcoming future. Check him out. Always a free mixtape download over here. Mike Love Presents: The Best of “Bad Boy Radio” Freestyles (1997-2007)

May 28, 2009

Mike Love just released this compilation/mixtape featuring some of the best freestyles from “Bad Boy Radio,” which was a show on Chicago’s WGCI Hip Hop radio station. The mixtape features some classic freestyles from the years of 97-07. Freestyles from artists like Busta Rhymes, Big Pun, Lord Tariq, Common, Q-Tip, Shyne, 50 Cent, Twista and even Shaq and Iverson. For serious hip hop archivists/collectors, this is a dope download. Here is what Mike Love had to say about the tape:

Seriously, I’m not one to wax nostalgic often but when I do look back at the Bad Boy Radio days, I realize today’s on-air DJs could never have the “freedom” that we had in our heyday. The cultural impact of Bad Boy Radio is still felt on Chicago radio today so I wanted to compile a lesser known but important segement of the show, the live in-studio freestyle sessions. By the millenium it was rare that a rapper could kick a verse without cursing so our interviews with rappers stayed just that, interviews. But in the early days every MC that stepped foot in the studio had to kick a verse. That said, there are some real gems here, from the classic All About The Bad Boyz (arranged by me) to Common’s freestyle over the Invocation beat (from One Day It’ll All Make Sense), to the late Big Pun exchanging verses with Fat Joe, to Twista jappin over Aaliyah’s One In A Million instrumental, to the entire Flipmode squad rhyming for 10+ minutes over a Master P track, to Juice’s crazy & completely off the dome freestyle, to DTP’s Shawnna noticibly stepping her rhymes up when former Infamous Syndicate partner Teefa steps in the studio, to KanYe West & Lupe Fiasco bringing the era to a close. Radio history was made.

Fresh Daily – Tomorrow Is Today

May 27, 2009

Fresh Daily releases a brand new mixtape. For those who don’t know, Fresh Daily is an upcoming artist out of Brooklyn, NY. I’ve actually had the pleasure of knowing Fresh for a few years now and he has definitely progressed tremendously since I have known him. This new tape is more like an album featuring “fresh” tracks from the unique and very creative artist. He explains his name as, “Fresh Daily just fits me right, I stay Fresh All day, every day, with the rhymes, with the style. Its just another way of expressing my motto of consistent innovation.” The mixtape is a great tape just in time for the good weather and the summer. The beats are very futuristic and laid back, some very dope production indeed. Check him out. Always a free mixtape download over here. Home of the free hip hop mixtape downloads. The Fake Shore Drive Mixtape (Hosted by The Cool Kids)

May 26, 2009

A lot of people don’t give Chicago the musical respect it deserves in terms of hip hop. Chi-city has birthed lots of dope artists through the years and lately they seem to be producing more and more talent. Luckily we have a dope blog called Fake Shore Drive to keep us all up to speed with what’s going on in the windy city. This mixtape was put together by Fake Shore Drive and Dj Timbuck2 and it’s hosted by The Cool Kids. I would write the description, but it’s always better to hear it from the horse’s mouth.

Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you The Fake Shore Drive Mixtape.

Now you can finally see what actually made the final cut, and how Tim sequenced and mixed the mixtape, that blends and cuts nicely.  We have new and unreleased material from Bump J, The Cool Kids, Lupe Fiasco, Mikkey Halsted, GLC, Naledge, Twista, Rhymefest, Really Doe, Sly Polaroid, Pugs Atomz, J. Ivy, Que Billah, Big Wiz, Skooda and more.

Unfortunately, we lost a couple of these exclusives to various internet leaks, but there are still some incredible gems on here that you’ve never heard.  I mean, it does feature a Bump J x Twilite Tone collaboration, so what more could you want?

I’d like to thank all of the artists that jumped down on the project and submitted music, Timbuck2 for orchestrating the music, The Cool Kids for hosting, Mike Kolar for MASTERING the project, Marc Moran for the dope visuals, and John Seyferth for his help with everything.

The tape is dope, trust us here at Get Right Music. Do we ever steer you wrong? (The answer is no). Always a free mixtape download over here. Tracklist and downloads below. Get Right…

Big Mike & Dj Thoro: Cassidy – Apply Pressure

May 23, 2009

There is no doubt that Cassidy has gone through his fair share of hardships. From standing murder trials to almost dying in a serious car accident. But, what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger, right? Well Cassidy proves that theory on this new tape. Put together with the help of Big Mike & Dj Thoro and also hosted by Mr. Carmelo Anthony. Another aspect of this tape that I enjoyed was that Thoro actually mixed the records and did some scratching, and Big Mike kept his audio levels down to a degree. Hah. So here it is, Casidy’s sort of “welcome me back” mixtape. Check it out. Always a free mixtape download over here. Home of the free hip hop mixtape downloads. Tracklist and downloads below. Donny Goines – The Breakfast Club

May 21, 2009

I wasn’t sure whether or not I was going to post this up, because technically it isn’t a mixtape, but rather a free album. I figured though more and more artists are going to start making free albums (especially in a recession) rather than mixtapes and we should feature the dope ones here as well. So, here is Donny Goines’ free album, The Breakfast Club. Donny Goines has been on the come up in NY for a little bit now and this is his sophomore project. It is definitely a great hip hop album. With featuring spots from Emilio Rojas, Termanology, Statik Selektah, Mistah F.A.B., Rain, 6th Sense and more. The production on here is dope and Donny Goines has a real “New York” flow over them. I had to give this album a few listens before posting, just because I haven’t heard a lot of music from Goines. But, after listening to it, I can co-sign it and it’s a dope album, especially for a “free” album. Check him out. Read Donny’s breakdown of each track over at illRoots. 1NF0 – Information Jakeknowledgy

May 16, 2009

Producer Jacob Giles by way of Australia sent me over his new mixtape with German MC Nick Knowledge. The duo has teamed up to form a new group called 1NF0. They are kind of a big deal on the other side of the world, so I figured I should show the support and let all the GRM family know what’s up. The beats are what really grabbed my attention with this tape. Sample based music with live instrumentation mixed in. Dope. Nick Knowledge does his thing as well on the mic. Check it out. Dj Reason – The Hand Me Down Puma Mix

May 14, 2009

It’s hard to not find a fan of some quality Beastie Boys music. Dj Reason, Mighty Healthy & Rik Cordero (Three 21 Media) all agreed on this theory and decided to put out a mixtape featuring some great Beastie Boys music. Dj Reason really made this a great tape by actually “mixing” it and “cutting”, an art that is quickly dying from mixtapes these days. As well as featuring classic Beatie Boys material, there are also some rare remixes on here that should be in every fans library. Check it out and enjoy. Always a free mixtape download over here. The Empire & Drake – Friends With Money

May 14, 2009

Drake is the artist that everyone is talking about right now, so naturally people are going to try and ride the buzz and drop mixtapes featuring him. On this special edition “Drought Is Over” mixtape, The Empire puts together a mix of the latest and best of Drake. Featuring some new tracks as well as some of the classic Drizzy tracks that you may have missed. We did just recently post up Drake’s first 2 mixtapes, so check those out as well if you want to complete your Drake library. Rock City – Put The F’n Album Out…Sneak Peek

May 14, 2009

Rock City, by way of the US Virgin Islands: St. Thomas, release their mixtape in promotion for their upcoming album. Apparently St. Thomas is known as Rock City and that is where these 2 brothers got their name from. After building up a name for themselves they began to start writing for major artists like Busta Rhymes, Nicole Scherzinger, Eve, Usher and Akon. The new mixtape highlights their talent with them rhyming over various instrumentals. I have never really heard too much from them, but the mixtape is pretty good and a great showcase of their talent. With the ability to lean between singing, rapping and reggae they may have the ability to be something. You be the judge. Check out their website for more info here. Joell Ortiz – Covers The Classics

May 12, 2009

Many say that Joell Ortiz is the best rapper in the group Slaughterhouse. I’ll leave that up for comments debate. Joell Ortiz is on his grind though, and in my opinion, one of the most improved artists out right now. He continues to improve, as it shows with this tape here. The mixtape is hosted by Dj Green Lantern and features Ortiz going in over some classic instrumentals such as “Rapper’s Delight,” “Mass Appeal,” “4,3,2,1,” “Drop A Gem On Em,” and much much more. A great creative idea for a mixtape, and Joell kills these beats. Check it out. Always a free mixtape download over here. Home of the free hip hop mixtape downloads.
