September 25, 2007

rae-vat-3

Raekwon has been dropping album mixtapes for a little bit now, trying to hold us over until the long awaited “Cuban Linx II” drops. This latest mixtape, the third in the series, features more of a vintage sound. Raekwon rhymes over dirty loops and RZA esque beats. A lot of the tracks on here are unreleased material from over the years. Featuring spots from Ghostface, Fat Joe and Inspectah Deck make this a pretty dope mixtape. Big Mike & Dj Thoro – Soundtrack to the Streets 4

September 23, 2007

bigmikestreets4

Big Mike and Dj Thoro are back with the 4th mixtape in their new series together. Featuring new music from the East Coast. Mainly featuring new music from Styles P, Cassidy, G-Unit and Dipset, but also featuring some new tracks from Fabolous, and Remo Da Rapstar. Lately, a lot of people have been commenting that Big Mike is falling off of his mixtape game. Personally, I sort of agree. But in his defense, it also depends on whether the music out at the time is hot or not. Like this one is a descent mixtape cause the music on here is pretty good…not because Big Mike did anything special. Anyway, click on the “Continue Reading” link for the tracklist and download. Tapemasters Inc. The Game & Lil Wayne – “Blood Sweat & Tears”

September 8, 2007

bloodsweattears

Tapemaster Inc. gets The Game and Lil Wayne together for a new mixtape project. I remember a while back they were working on it. It finally got released a few days ago and it’s a dope mixtape. These two together actually make a good combo I think. There is really only a couple tracks where they actually recorded together. They actually worked on a dvd together also. The rest of the mixtape almost looks like a “Game vs. Lil Wayne” mixtape though. There are new Game and Wayne tracks on here, 39 tracks on here in total. Review – “Curtis & Graduation”

September 4, 2007

KanYe West - Graduation (Front).jpg50Curtis.jpg

Alright, so I was happy to see today that I am starting to get a little respect in the review and quality side of the music industry. I got the advance copies of 50 Cent’s “Curtis” and Kanye West’s “Graduation,” from their respective camps. I was asked to listen and review the albums on the site. So, the past few hours I’ve been listening to both nonstop. Both 50 and Kanye have different styles of music, they obviously both need to try and make a couple commercial tracks to sell, but the rest of their albums are unique respectively.

Kanye has a lot of soulfull tracks on his album. Most are definitely samples or re-played samples by professional musicians. I have always been a fan of Kanye’s production style with chopped samples and a different beat pattern than the typical pop-rap tracks on the market.

50, on the other hand, seems to be trying to stick to his roots with hard knocking beats. The one downfall I seem to hear though with 50 is that he might be trying too hard to sell. Too hard to make music that he feels the mass wants to hear, rather than make the music that he feels. I might not be making the most sense, but it sounds sometimes like 50’s “trying.” Except for “I Still Kill” featuring Akon, “Curtis 187″ and “I Get Money.”

On Kanye’s album I can listen to 9 0r 10 tracks out of the 15.

On 50’s album I can listen to 9 out of 17.

Alright so here’s my final criticism and review of both albums…

I’ll start with Kanye. I don’t really have any criticism for Kanye. The only thing is that there are a few tracks that are sort of “left-field.” But that is music, you need to experiment and try new things. That’s how music evolves. That’s why I tend to prefer Kanye, because of his tendency to experiment with music. His album is dope. 4 out of 5 for sure. Don’t bootleg it, go buy it. It’s worth it.

Alright, so 50’s album “Curtis”…My main criticism is that I don’t understand why he still put “Amusement Park” and “Fully Loaded Clip” on the album. I mean those tracks are already old to me. Make the album shorter, who cares. He could have put out a 15 track album and cut those 2 songs. Also, there are better second singles on there than the “Ayo Technology” and the Robin Thick track “Follow My Lead.” But, overall his album is pretty good. If you’re a hardcore 50 fan, you’ll definitely love it. I’m a fan of Curtis myself and I’d give the album a 3.5 out of 5.

In the end though, I know that I will grow tired of 50’s tracks faster than I will Kanye’s. There it is…the official Get Right Music review. Click on the “Continue Reading” link for my favorite tracks off of the album. Please leave comments. Get Right…
